What makes My Melodyy by Wolltraum so unique?
Most yarns are spun on a spinning wheel (or a machine like it) and then dyed. My Melodyy yarn uses fine single strands gathered together. Gradients are created by changing the colour of one strand at a time for beautiful effects. Each colour change is done by using a tiny knot (TK) that is very secure and easily hidden in your project. This yarn is a 50/50 mix of cotton and acrylic so it is very soft and so lovely to wear!
How thick is the yarn?
The yarn comes in 4 different weights and many different lengths. 3-ply, 4-ply, 5-ply, and 8-ply. 3-ply is a light fingering, 4-ply is fingering, 5-ply is sport, and 8-ply is considered a DK or light worsted. Not all colours are available in all weights but you can also order custom cakes if you want something not listed.
What is the difference between light centre and dark centre cakes?
When you order most cakes, you can choose between a light centre or a dark centre. This is just the direction the yarn is wound. Even though each listing is for one cake, each listing photo has two cakes in it. The left is the dark centred and the right is the light centred cake. The length of each colour is the same no matter which way you wind it, unless you buy a tuchwicklung (see below). We all have preferences between pulling yarn from the outside or inside of the cake and this just lets you choose which colour you start with given your preference.
Tuchwicklung???
In typical cakes, each colour section is the same length. When making certain pieces like triangular or circular shawls or blankets started from the centre, this can make it look like the colour you started with has way more real estate in your project than the last colours. Tuchwicklung cakes are custom cakes that have shorter colour lengths in the middle of the cake and longer colour lengths on the outside of the cake. Each colour section gets longer as you use the yarn. This allows for more even colouring on projects that aren't worked back and forth.
How long before my order is shipped?
Wolltraum yarns are made to order. Once you order from me, it takes 2-3 weeks for the yarn to be made and get to me. This time can increase during busy seasons. The yarn will be ship within 2 business days of me receiving it.
What if I order "in stock" yarn?
All in stock yarn ships within 3 business days of the order being placed unless the order also contains yarn I don't have in stock. In that case, the entire order will ship when all yarn has been received.
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping is free on orders of $150 CAD or more to Canada and the United States. Shipping of $100 CAD or more are charged a flat rate. Anything below this will be charged the actual shipping for the order. Please see our shipping policy for more information.
I can't find a certain colourway.
Wolltraum offers around 300 different colourways, I may have missed a couple when adding their extensive offerings to the store. If you want a colourway that you know is available and don't see it on the site, please contact me and if it's available I will add it.
